We keep on getting smarter! OK Congratulates Dr. Daniel Potts

OK Labs Congratulates Dr. Daniel Potts , Director of Engineering, on receiving his PhD from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW.

While completing his course work for his PhD, Dr. Dan worked full time and as result became addicted to coffee (originally for the caffeine, but more recently for the taste).  He still thinks that UNSW and Gernot's OS group are a fantastic and buzzing places to do  OS research.
A bit about Dr. Dan’s thesis:
"Eidolon: Adapting distributed applications to their
environment"

This thesis explores approaches to improving the ability of distributed applications to share consistent data efficiently and with improved functionality over wide-area and diverse environments. A cornerstone of this thesis is to provide an architecture that allows us to make use of the available resources of a distributed computer system without having to rewrite our software.

The software architecture presented in this feature is relevant to the work conducted at OK Labs, particularly with the rising predominance   of multi-core and multi-threaded architectures. Efficient data sharing on these systems means greater performance and lower overheads.
