What do Maxwell Smart, Jack Bauer, and Barack Obama have in common?

Ring, Ring. Buzz. Buzz. Hear your favorite ringtone.

Today, answering a mobile phone and making calls on it are natural acts. In fact so is browsing the web, getting directions, exchanging text messages, making purchases, banking, and even performing work tasks by accessing company servers and networks.

Next time you reach for your mobile, stop and think: can you really trust the device with your private conversations, your credit card numbers, and access to your employer’s proprietary information? If your employer is a government agency, the security of your mobile activities can impact the health and safety of other people, even effect national security.

Agent 86 and the Shoe Phone - Re-imagined

I grew up watching James Bond, Matt Helm, and Maxwell Smart use exotic (and strange) devices to communicate with other spies in movies and on TV. To this day, I still get a kick out of Jack Bauer on “24” and how he uses his ultra-smartphone to fight terrorists and other bad guys.

Well, reality is finally catching up with fiction. Companies and government agencies are looking to off-the-shelf smartphones and other devices to make their employees more productive in the field. Security-wise these gadgets come up short, unfortunately. And famously so – when he came into office, President Obama insisted on keeping his beloved Blackberry, despite objections from the Secret Service, the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA.  So, at no small cost, the U.S. Government handcrafted the “ObamaBerry,” a secure and trusted version of the road warrior’s not-so-secret weapon.

Introducing SecureIT Mobile

To help government and enterprise create secure mobile devices without breaking the bank (or raising taxes), OK Labs just launched SecureIT Mobile. By combining off-the-shelf software (like Android) with mobile virtualization, SecureIT Mobile lets OEMs, integrators and government contractors create devices for agency and enterprise CIOs and the IT teams that support them.

With SecureIT Mobile, we help our customers:

  • Build secure communications devices for little more than the cost of regular smartphones
  • Get to market and into deployment quickly by building on shipping handsets
  • Create secure smartphones that even Jack Bauer would be proud to use
