Community Ecosystem
Today’s mobile and embedded applications draw upon a rich mix of hardware and software technologies. As a leading supplier of platform software for intelligent devices, Open Kernel Labs must comprehend this technology mix and the ecosystem of communities that create and sustain them.
Today, Open Kernel Labs operates at the nexus of this ecosystem, building on and contributing to the work of the following communities:
- Open Source
- OK Labs OKL4 microkernel is part of the L4 kernel project and family. OK Labs participates in L4 development and supports growing open source community work around the OKL4 kernel in its own right. OK Labs also draws upon and contributes to a range of projects like the Linux Kernel, the GNU project and others that enable embedded applications.
- Academia
- OK Labs CTO Gernot Heiser is also an active university instructor and researcher at the University of New South Wales, where he and his Ph.D. students engage in operating systems research together with the global academic community in Computer Science.
- NICTA
- Through collaboration with the National ICT of Australia (NICTA) and the community of NICTA members and partners, OK Labs contributes to and commercializes research in the productivity of embedded systems software development.
- Partner Companies
- OK Labs partner programs help embedded developers create feature-rich and commercially viable end products. Together, OK Labs and its partner companies create, validate and promote joint solutions to help developers bring their wares to market on time and under budget.
- OKL4 Developers
- The OK Labs OKL4 platform offers developers a compelling mix of performance, robustness and security, all built on a shared open foundation. Embedded developers are forming a community around OKL4 to confer these benefits upon their applications and to help OK Labs continue to optimize the platform to meet emerging requirements.
