OK and NICTABackgroundNICTA was founded by the Australian Government to promote science and innovation by capitalizing on Australia's extensive ICT talent through world-class research, commercialization, education, and industry collaboration. |
Background
Funded by the Australian Federal Government's Department of Communications, IT, the Arts and the Australian Research Council, its consortium partners include the Australian Capital Territory Government, the New South Wales Government, the University of New South Wales, and the Australian National University.
As an independent company in a joint venture with NICTA, OK can focus on delivering commercialization results without negative impact on its aggressive R&D agenda. NICTA, a shareholder in OK, provides research and licenses outcomes to OK, which develops them to commercial maturity, and provides marketing, sales and support. Professor Gernot Heiser, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of OK, leads the Embedded Real Time Operating Systems (ERTOS) program at NICTA. The ERTOS section of the NICTA website provides additional research, developer resources, and related operating-system publications. The company enjoys a strong student pipeline from ERTOS and the University of New South Wales.
