Open Kernel Labs Joins ARM Connected Community

June 06, 2007

CHICAGO AND SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -June 5, 2007 —Open Kernel Labs (OK), a global provider of operating systems and virtualization technology, today announces it has joined the ARM® Connected Community, the industry’s largest ecosystem of ARM technology-based products and services. As part of the ARM Connected Community, OK Labs will gain access to a full range of resources to help it market and deploy innovative solutions that will enable developers to get their ARM Powered® products to market faster. OK’s (www.ok-labs.com) software enables the development of more reliable, trustworthy and affordable embedded mobile and consumer devices.

OK joins the Community with a 10-year track record of operating-systems innovation and performance world-records on a range on architectures, including ARM processors. OK’s technology roadmap is on track to achieve unprecedented levels of security and correctness assurance for the development of embedded applications.

“OKs’ success to date is the result of the research and development work of the best minds in microkernel technology,” said Steve Subar, CEO and Co-Founder of OK. “By joining the ARM Connected Community we expect to broaden and share our technical experience with the larger ARM market.”

OKL4, a microkernel operating system, is based on an extremely small, open source, microkernel that efficiently manages hardware resources. The software provides the required features for next-generation medium- to high-end embedded systems including virtualization to protect and secure subsystems from faulty or malicious components. The OKL4 microkernel and virtualization technology is currently in use at major manufacturers of wireless devices and chipsets. OKL4 is currently available for ARM v5 (ARM9™ processor family and XScale processors); ARM v6 (ARM11™ processor family); x86 in 32- and 64-bit versions and MIPS32 and MIPS64. Support for additional processors will be announced in the future. Presently supported guest operating systems include OK Linux, OK’s high-performance virtualized Linux (2.6.10) and a number of RTOSes, including eCos. Today developers can download OKL4 plus OK Linux.

The ARM Connected Community is a global network of companies aligned to provide a complete solution, from design to manufacture and end use, for products based on the ARM architecture. ARM offers a variety of resources to Community members, including promotional programs and peer-networking opportunities that enable a variety of ARM Partners to come together to provide end-to-end customer solutions. Visitors to the ARM Connected Community have the ability to contact members directly through the website. “The Connected Community is all about companies working together to provide the most complete solutions in the shortest possible time. By joining the Community, which now comprises more than 400 companies, OK increases the large portfolio of skills, products and services that are centered around the ARM architecture, and currently available to developers worldwide,” said Ian Thornton, director of solutions marketing for ARM.
