The presentation will explain what virtualization is and the benefits of applying virtualization within embedded systems including support for heterogeneous environments and the safe sharing of hardware by independent applications. It will outline the specific virtualization requirements of embedded systems, as distinct from those of the desktop and server computing market. McCammon will then discuss virtualization solutions such as using a generalized microkernel as a hypervisor to gain high performance sharing and global scheduling in an embedded system.
